Weekend Kumamoto has a slightly different air than the weekdays. Kyushu's second city. A nightlife district near the Kamitori and Shimotori arcades. This Saturday night I picked Kumamoto Deriheru Reverse. How to spend that one weekly slot of time for myself — my thinking on that has shifted with age.
90-minute course, ¥23,000. Hours to be confirmed. Minami-Kumamoto, Kuhonji, Hanaokayama area.
On the matter of 90 minutes
How time feels changes with the situation. A boring 90 minutes drags; a full one flies. Everybody experiences that, but after eighteen years in this business, "the density of the time" becomes a key axis of how I rate things.
The 90 minutes at Kumamoto Deriheru Reverse felt short. "Lost track of time" is a worn-out phrase, but tonight was close to that state. At the end I had the sense of "I wanted to stay a little longer." That, I think, is the highest compliment there is.
High-density time has a common trait: the woman is watching your state. Not running a manual, but constantly judging what this person wants right now and moving accordingly. The woman at Kumamoto Deriheru Reverse could do that.
Across the first, middle, and final thirds, the feel shifted naturally. Rather than running at one fixed tempo, it sped up or slowed down to match my reactions. That "living, breathing flow of time" only becomes possible when high skill and deep experience come together. Without my saying anything, she read my state and changed the course of things.
At 40, one of my yardsticks for "a good use of money" is "no regret afterward." The 90 minutes I spent tonight for ¥23,000 — zero regret. If anything, I wish I'd come sooner. Nights that produce that feeling aren't that common, even across eighteen years of experience.
Exploration by another name: the business trip
I started coming to Kumamoto for work, but by now adult-entertainment research has joined the list of "things I look forward to in Kumamoto." It's close to the feeling of understanding each region's culture through the body.

On regional differences
I'll say plainly what I felt from those 90 minutes in Kumamoto. Compared with Tokyo, the "warmth" of the service ran higher. Unhurried, no rushing. That's a feeling hard to get in the big city.
The "ease" that a regional delivery health carries was more comfortable than I'd remembered.
On the next Kumamoto trip too
If there's another trip, I'm thinking I'll call Kumamoto Deriheru Reverse. ¥23,000, 90 minutes. That's a value you can't measure by big-city logic.
