Field Diary Tokyo Other Suika

Why I Picked Suika in Tokyo, and How It Turned Out

Suika, a Tokyo-area health shop. What kind of time can you spend for ¥10,000 over 30 minutes? I went and found out.

ElonWhether arrival is earlier or later than promised factors into the shop's grade too. A shop that shows up early is a sign of solid schedule management.

Hit 37 and what you want starts to change. In my twenties my standard was simply "how stimulating is it." Now it's "how comfortable is it." Picking Tokyo's Suika came from that same instinct.

30-minute course, ¥10,000. 8:00 to 24:00. Ikebukuro North and West Exit area.

On going quiet

Lately I get little time when my head goes quiet. The line between work and private life has thinned, and wherever I am, something is always lingering at the edge of my mind. Hit 37 and that becomes the default, and you come to understand the value of "going quiet."

For 30 minutes at Suika, my head went quiet.

For the first ten minutes or so, the thoughts kept coming. Last week's work, tomorrow's schedule, the emails I hadn't answered. But as if pulled along by her pace, my thinking gradually went still. Few can do this on purpose. It's less technique than the "power to set a space."

The "power to set a space" is hard to explain, but it's the ability to create a "quiet time" inside that room. Tonight's woman had it. It wasn't that I actively did anything; I just naturally went quiet.

By the time we hit the second half, even the reason I'd come to Tokyo wasn't in my head. That kind of "complete switch-off" can't be made with technique alone. It only happens when the space, the woman, and my own state line up. Fifteen years in this business, and the nights I get that feeling are few.

When I stepped outside afterward, the Tokyo night air felt better than I'd expected. I walked for a while. Head still quiet, I headed back to the hotel. ¥10,000 for 30 minutes, and I believe this "quiet" carries over into the quality of the next day's work.

Why I keep coming back

My third visit to Suika. The reason for repeating is simple: it "doesn't miss." Maybe there's no upside surprise, but there's no downside either. That steadiness is, to me, the single most important factor over a long relationship.

This time too, the 30-minute course at ¥10,000. Suika.

This visit's woman

This time it was a different woman than before. The shop lets you use nominations (requesting a specific girl), but I deliberately asked for someone else. I wanted to confirm whether the shop's "standard" rides on one woman, or whether multiple women operate at the same level.

The result: both were the same level. That's the condition for a "shop you can repeat."

A fixed point in Tokyo

Calling Suika every time I'm in Tokyo is becoming a routine. Ikebukuro North and West Exit area, 8:00 to 24:00. That's a compliment.

Elon
ElonSetting a budget and sticking to it, or staying flexible based on the substance, this time it was the latter. I'd considered adding more if it was good, but 30 minutes was enough.
