This was my third time with C-kyu Gurujo Uguisudani. The first visit was almost an accident. I had time to kill in Tokyo, ran a search, and this place came up. The first impression was good enough that I started coming back.
This time, the 70-minute course again, ¥6,000. The hours at C-kyu Gurujo Uguisudani — 9:30 a.m. to 4:00 a.m. — fit my lifestyle.
On getting quiet
Lately I don't get much time where my head goes quiet. The line between work and personal life has gone thin, and wherever I am, something is sitting in the back of my mind. At 41 that becomes the default, and you start to understand the value of "getting quiet."
For those 70 minutes at C-kyu Gurujo Uguisudani, my head went quiet.
The first ten minutes or so, the thoughts were still coming. Last week's work, tomorrow's schedule, an email I hadn't answered. But as if pulled along by my girl's pace, my thinking gradually went still. Few girls can do that on purpose. It's less a technique than something closer to "the ability to create a space."
"The ability to create a space" is hard to explain, but it's the power to generate a "quiet stretch of time" inside that room. Tonight's girl had it. It wasn't that I actively did anything; I just naturally went quiet.
By the back half, even the reason I'd come to Tokyo was gone from my head. This kind of "complete switch-off" can't be built on technique alone. It only happens when the room, the girl, and my own state line up. Nineteen years in this business, and the nights where I get that feeling are rare.
When it was over and I stepped outside, the Tokyo night air felt better than I expected. I walked for a while. Head still quiet, I went back to the hotel. ¥6,000 for 70 minutes — I believe this kind of "quiet" carries over into the quality of the next day's work.
Why I keep coming back
This was my third visit to C-kyu Gurujo Uguisudani. The reason for the repeats is simple: it never misses. There may be no upside surprise, but there's no downside either. That consistency is, in my view, the single most important factor over a long relationship.
The 70-minute course again, ¥6,000. C-kyu Gurujo Uguisudani.
Tonight's girl
This time I had a different girl than last visit. The shop lets you use the nomination system (requesting a specific girl), but I deliberately asked for someone else. I wanted to confirm whether the shop's "standard" rides on one girl, or whether multiple girls operate at the same level.
The result: both were at the same standard. That is the condition for a "shop you can keep coming back to."
A fixed point in Tokyo
A routine is taking shape: every time I come to Tokyo, I call C-kyu Gurujo Uguisudani. Uguisudani area, 9:30 a.m. to 4:00 a.m. That's a compliment.
