Once I'd narrowed Kumamoto down to three places, the last call I made was to Kyushu Jukujo Yatsushiro. The reason was simple: their web copy was written the most plainly. A shop with no excessive self-congratulation is, to me, a sign they're competing on substance.
What I picked at Kyushu Jukujo Yatsushiro was the 90-minute course, ¥22,000. Hours to be confirmed.
The Moment She Walked In
The instant the door opened, I thought tonight might be a winner. I had no evidence, but that's what a first impression is. Across 19 years of accumulated experience, this instinct rarely misses by much anymore.
The girl looked early thirties. Her makeup was neither too heavy nor too light, with a cleanliness that suited the feel of Kumamoto. Down to how she chose her clothes, she gave the impression of "someone who knows herself." People like that usually know themselves in how they work, too.
After she came into the room, she lined her shoes up neatly when she stepped out of them. Catching details like that is a habit of mine, every time. People with no wasted motion in their bearing have no wasted motion in their work. I made that call in the first two minutes. It held up across the whole 90.
The way she arranged her expressions was natural too. Not smiling the entire time, not stone-faced, shifting to suit the moment. The naturalness of her laugh especially is a key indicator. A manufactured laugh and a real one, after 19 years I can tell them apart by ear. Tonight it was a real laugh.
Looking back over the 90 minutes, I could feel that the first impression of her looks and bearing had been "right" all the way to the end. The match between the phone description and the real thing, the match between first impression and the actual service, that consistency is what makes Kyushu Jukujo Yatsushiro a place I'll pick again. The ¥22,000 price tag has her quality built into the breakdown. Running into this level at a Kumamoto delivery health shop doesn't happen all that often.
Choosing a Men's Esthetic
It wasn't all that long ago that I started going to delivery health shops. For a guy whose center of gravity was delivery health and health shops, it's only in the last few years that I came to genuinely see the value in esthetic and aroma work.
I chose Kyushu Jukujo Yatsushiro because its name kept coming up as a highly regarded esthetic shop in Kumamoto.
On the Treatment
90-minute course for ¥22,000. Once she got into the treatment, she did a consultation first, where I was tight, what kind of pressure I preferred. A shop that does this versus one that doesn't, the quality of the experience changes enormously.
The treatment itself, the oil-temperature control, the pressure adjustment, the rhythm of how it unfolded, all of it cleared the bar and then some.
The Value of a Kumamoto Esthetic
A ¥22,000, 90-minute esthetic in Kumamoto. How does that stack up against Tokyo rates? I felt there's value here that's particular to this area. The Yatsushiro, Minamata, Uto, and Uki area, hours to be confirmed.
